VOLUSIA COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO HOST LUNCHEON
FOR HIGHER EDUCATION CONSORTIUM
The Volusia County Council will host a luncheon with members of the
Higher Education Consortium and transportation task force to discuss its
work in validating the county’s transportation challenges. The luncheon
will be at noon Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Hosseini Center, Café 101, at
Daytona State College, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona
Beach.
In 2007, Volusia County Manager Jim Dinneen asked the consortium to
develop a task force to conduct a study of Volusia’s transportation
challenges following a 2006 transportation summit of leaders of
Volusia’s local governments. The consortium is composed of
representatives from Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona State College,
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Stetson University and the
University of Central Florida.
In 2008, analysts from the five colleges issued the results of their
year-long study. The Volusia County Council will use this research to
analyze current and future transportation issues and the feasibility of
using alternative funding sources for future transportation
improvements.
