VOLUSIA COUNTY LIBRARIES TO
INTRODUCE
NEW ONLINE CATALOG SEPT. 15
Volusia County’s public libraries are upgrading their online catalog
and databases to improve services to patrons.
With the new system, scheduled to go live Sept. 15, library card
holders can go online to reserve items, change contact information,
check their financial history, and request e-mail notification when the
library adds materials by a favorite author or about a particular
subject.
According to Library Services Director Lucinda Colee, the most
noticeable change will be the enhancement of the online catalog, SurfCat.
Patrons will be able to search for materials by branch and access “quick
reservation lists” of new fiction, DVD or audiobook titles.
A children’s catalog will be introduced in October along with New
York Times bestseller lists that will connect directly to the titles in
the libraries’ catalog for quick reservations.
To prepare for the data migration, the libraries’ automation system
and online catalog will be offline from Sept. 6 - 15. During this time,
patrons will be able to search the online catalog but will not have
access to account information or be able to renew or place items on
hold.
