Notice of Vacancy
on the Value Adjustment Board
The Volusia County Council is seeking applications from individuals who
wish to serve as a citizen member of the Value Adjustment Board (VAB).
This is a volunteer position and the successful appointee will serve
without compensation or expense reimbursement. The appointment is for
approximately one year, and the appointee may serve multiple terms by
annual appointment of the county council.
The VAB considers and renders a decision on appeal petitions relating to
property value assessments, classifications and exemptions. It is
comprised of two members of the county council, one member of the school
board, and two citizens. One citizen member is appointed by the County
Council and one citizen member is appointed by the School Board.
Persons wishing to apply to serve on the Value Adjustment Board must
meet the following qualifications:

Must own homestead property within Volusia County.
- May
not be a member or an employee of any taxing authority.
- May
not be a person who represents property owners in any administrative
or judicial review of property taxes.
- May
not be an elected official, appointed state, county or municipal
office holder, employee of county government or currently serving on
a county advisory board.
The
citizen member shall be appointed for a term commencing on April 1 of
each year and ending at the conclusion of the last meeting of the Value
Adjustment Board for that year. The VAB generally meets three to five
times during the tax year, and each meeting is usually less than one
hour. However, the time demands may vary depending upon the number of
petitions filed and other factors that impact the appeal process.
