Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.  Prior to hire:  Must be 19 years of age. Must have passed a 7-8 level-A TABE test with scores at or above the 10th grade in all areas tested.  Exceptions can be made for those applicants who can show they have completed college level courses equivalent to this testing level.   Applicants must have a valid Florida Driver's License at time of appointment. Corrections will fund initial training and provide salary to the Corrections Officer Trainee.

Applicants applying for Clerical positions must complete a County of Volusia application and a supplemental questionnaire for each clerical position for which you are applying. Applicants applying for Clerical positions are required to take and pass the Florida Ready to Work assessment test in order to be considered for employment with the County of Volusia. This test is offered free of charge to our applicants. The test is divided into three (3) timed assessments; Applied Math, Locating Information and Reading for Information. Approximately one (1) hour is allotted for each assessment. In order to pass this test, you must make a score of three (3) or better for each assessment. Applicants will be notified by mail on how to register for testing. You must register at least 24 hours prior to taking the test on the Florida Ready to Work website. Applicants will be notified of the test date, location and time by mail once registration has been confirmed.
